Daihatsu Copen GR Sport

The Daihatsu Copen GR Sport is a compact 2-seat convertible sports car developed by Daihatsu with technical input from TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. It combines the lightweight character of the Copen with sportier suspension, increased body rigidity, aggressive styling, and a driver-focused cabin. The production model was launched in Japan in October 2019 after the Copen GR Sport Concept was shown at Tokyo Auto Salon 2019.

Engine & Performance

The Copen GR Sport uses a 658cc 3-cylinder DOHC turbocharged engine producing 64 PS and 92 Nm of torque. It is available with either a 7-speed Super Active Shift CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission, with front-wheel drive.

The car weighs approximately 850 kg with the 5MT and 870 kg with the CVT, helping give it a lively and responsive driving character. Official WLTC fuel economy is approximately 18.6 km/L for the manual and 19.2 km/L for the CVT.

Sporty Handling

One of the biggest attractions of the Copen GR Sport is its chassis tuning. The car features dedicated front and center braces, specially tuned shock absorbers, front and rear stabilizers, and other rigidity improvements designed to provide more precise handling.

The result is a small sports car that is particularly enjoyable on winding roads. Its compact dimensions—3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and 1,280 mm high—also make it easy to maneuver in urban environments.
